Discount LG VX8300:
Out with the Flaws, In with the New Features
When LG released the VX8100, the phone’s high-end features were welcomed with some
enthusiasm. However, that enthusiasm was soon doused by several drawbacks. This time, LG tries to remedy those
flaws with the release of the LG VX8300.
The VX8300 looks almost like its predecessor. It also has the great features that
made the VX8100 a winner. It measures in at 3.58 x 1.93 x 0.92 and weighs 3.88. The VX8300 has a slightly rounder
design, making it look more appealing. It comes with a 1.2-inch external display that can show you information
about the phone including time, date, caller ID and battery life. Below the external display are the dedicated keys
for playing music. You don’t need to flip open your phone just to get the sounds going. Inside the phone is the
larger 2.25-inch display that supports 262,000 colors. The colors are vivid and clear.
To navigate around the VX8300, there is the 5-way toggle that allows you to map 4
different functions. If the OK button is pressed while on standby mode, it will open up the phone’s menu. Around
the VX8300 are the different dedicated soft keys. The buttons on the keypad are large, which makes pressing them a
breeze. The keys are well spaced, which helps to reduce wrong clicks.
Located at the back of the VX8300 is a 1.3-megapixel camera that is very much
similar to the VX8100. You have access to five resolutions, self-time, and even a night mode. You can even zoom in
on your subject up to 4x. Image quality is quite an improvement over its predecessor. Colors are sharper and
brighter and the outline of the subject is clearly distinct. One of the drawbacks of the VX8300 is the pitifully
small integrated memory of 28MB. However, this is offset by the presence of a microSD card slot that can extend the
phone’s memory. Thanks to the stereo speaker that LG installed, music quality is excellent. It uses a 2.5mm audio
jack, so you would need an adapter if you plan to use your own headset.
Surfing the Web using the VX8300 is made possible with EV-DO Rev. A connection.
When in a place with strong EV-DO signal, downloading is brisk and data transfer is speedy. With the VX8300, you
also get MSN and Yahoo instant messaging. Call quality is fine, even when on noisy environments. There’s barely any
static and the audio is quite loud. The battery of the VX8300 is rated at 4 hours of talk time and 16 days of
standby time – more than enough battery life to last you through the day. While not perfect, the LG VX8300 is still
an exceptional upgrade over its predecessor.
