Discount Apple iPhone: Multimedia Goodness In A Stunning
Package
What do you get when you mix an iPod, glass, steel and cutting-edge touchscreen
technology? You get the Apple iPhone. The iPhone is a work of art – it features excellent touchscreen experience
and an excellent mix of software all in one lightning-speed device.
The iPhone is simply stunning. It weighs in at 4.8 ounces. The design is strictly
minimalist but still has the flair without being showy. The front is dominated by a large 3.5-inch touchscreen
display. The buttons around the iPhone is unlabeled, though figuring out which one does which doesn’t take a rocket
scientist. The 3.5mm phone jack accepts the included earphones that comes with a built-in mic. You can also use
your own headphones with an optional adapter.
The touchscreen is very responsive. Icons move and respond exactly the way you
want them to. Instead of a physical QWERTY keyboard, the iPhone has an onscreen keypad, though it may feel a bit
mediocre for some. Accuracy is a problem when you are typing and putting much used symbols at another page is one
head-scratcher.
As a media player, the iPhone is second to none. The 3.5-inch LCD displays movies
and clips in sharp and crisp colors. For those who love flicking the screen, the new Cover Flow would definitely
delight you. It has a built-in speaker, though they sounded tinny. On the other hand, for general listening, the
speaker is loud and clear enough.
Connecting to the Web is done via Wi-Fi with its 802.11b/g connection or via EDGE.
Since the iPhone has Mac OSX instead of Windows, you have access to Safari. Surfing using Wi-Fi is quite speedy,
though switching over to EDGE would result in more waiting time for pages to load.
While most of the iPhone’s features are quite superb, it is just average when it
comes to call quality. The earpiece of the iPhone is weak and calls were somewhat unclear. On the other end of the
line, however, calls sounded clear. One of the biggest flaw of the iPhone is that the GSM radio signals tend to
interfere with the speakers. Therefore, while docked, the iPhone switches its cell radio off. To answer the phone,
you need to undock the iPhone first.
It comes with 8GB of storage. With no option to expand, you’d find yourself
wishing for more storage space. The battery is rated 8 Hours of talk time or 10.4 Days of standby.
It’s true, the iPhone is not perfect. However, despite its flaws, the iPhone is an
excellent phone if your more into multimedia entertainment.
